“John” … constantly saying “Come on, Chadwick, pay up!” … insatiable desire for money … a Gershwin fan … boating a hobby … his Austin, a menace … college ahead.
Died: 28-Feb-2005, East Hampton, NY
[From the July-August, 2005 Brown U. Alumni Charter.]
John L. Oliver ’59, of East Hampton, NY: Feb. 28, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He worked in advertising for more than 30 years in various offices of the Interpublic Group of Companies. He was a longtime member of the Devon Yacht Club, Amagansett, and the University Club in New York City. He is survived by his wife, Anne; a daughter, Victoria ’82; and nis mother, Janice Sullivan.
Below a couple of remembrances from classmates:
Oliver was one of my closest pals at Staples. We kept in touch for ten years after Staples and he was an usher in my wedding in ‘64, but we lost contact as the years went on.
Interesting note: Oliver was an usher at my wedding (1966). Also … I saw him when he was in the Navy shipyard in San Francisco, when I was in Monterrey (1960). We visited him both in NYC and then East Hampton (1969). Strangely enough, he was the only classmate I ever contacted after graduating from college until recently.
